Exploring the art and science of finding meaning in market research
I teach a class to broadcast executives that includes a section on visual thinking. Using different visual paradigms, they are asked to visually depict a problem. Not solve it, just depict it. I give them over 20 different visual relationships to use. I usually have them describe the same problem 20 different ways. The result is that a) they see the problem in new ways they had not thought of before, and b) the new insight often leads to new solutions. It’s fun and you don’t have to be an artist to do it, since most of us think visually as our primary thought mode. And it’s fun.
